His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop of Kurnool, Rev. Msgr. Anthony Poola, of the Clergy of the Diocese of Cuddapah and director of the Christian Foundation for Children and Ageing in Cuddapah.

His Beatitude Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of  the Syro-Malabar Church, with the consent of the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church and having consulted the Apostolic See, has decided to appoint, according to can. 85 §51 of the C.I.C.O., Rev. Fr. Joseph Arumachadath, MCSB, first Bishop of Bhadravathi of Syro-Malabars.

 

           Eparchy of Bhadravathi of Syro-Malabars:  (29 august 2007)          

His Beatitude Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of  the Syro-Malabar Church, with the consent of the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church and having consulted the Apostolic See, has decided to erect, according to can. 85 §51 of the C.I.C.O., the Eparchy of Bhadravathi of Syro-Malabars, with territory dismembered from the Eparchy of Mananthavady of Syro-Malabars. The new Eparchy become suffragan of the Metropolitan Province of Tellicherry of Syro-Malabars.

           Archbishop of Bhopal:  (15 June 2007)     

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of His Grace Most Rev. Pascal Topno, SJ, from the pastoral governance of the archdiocese of Bhopal and has appointed Archbishop of Bhopal, His Lordship Right Rev. Leo Cornelio, SVD, Bishop of Khandwa.

 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop of Amravati, the Reverend Msgr. Lourdnada Daniel, of the clergy of the Diocese of Poona and Vicar General of the Diocese.

 

           Bishop of Tura:  (21 April 2007)     

 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of His Lordship Right Rev. George Mamalassery, from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Tura. The Coadjutor Bishop, His Lordship Right Rev. Andrew R. Marak,  has become the new Bishop of Tura.

Patrick Paul D'Souza, from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Varanasi and has appointed Bishop of Varanasi, the Reverend Raphael Manjaly, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Agra and Diocesan Administrator of the Archdiocese.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of His Lordship Right Rev. William Leonard D'Mello, from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Karwar and has appointed Bishop of Karwar, the Reverend Derek Fernandes, of the clergy of the Diocese of Belgaum and Chancellor of the Diocese.

          Archbishop of Trichur of Syro-Malabars:  (22 january 2007)     

His Beatitude Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of  the Syro-Malabar Church, with the consent of the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church and having consulted the Apostolic See, has decided to accept the resignation of Archbishop Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy from the See of  Trichur and to transfer His Excellency Mar Andrews Thazhath, Titular Bishop of Aptuca and Auxiliary of Trichur, to the Metropolitan See of Trichur.

His Beatitude Cyril Mar Baselios, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Church, with the consent of the Synod of the Syro-Malankara Church and having consulted the Apostolic See, has decided to transfer, according to can. 85 §51 of the C.I.C.O., His Excellency Joshua Mar Ignatios, from Titular Bishop of Nigizubi and Auxiliary of the Archeparchy of Trivandrum of Syro-Malankarasto first Bishop of Mavelinkara of Syro-Malankaras.

John Baptist Sequeira, from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Chikmagalur and has appointed Bishop of Chikmagalur, the Reverend Thomasappa Anthony Swamy, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Professor in St. Peter's Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore.

         Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam of Syro-Malabars:  (20 september 2006)     

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has given his assent to the election of Rev. Jose Pandarassery as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Kottayam of Syro-Malabars. To the new Bishop has been assigned the Titular See of Castello di Ripa (Castelloripensis).

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of His Lordship Mar Dominic Kokkat, CST, from the pastoral governance of the Eparchy of Gorakhpur of Syro-Malabars and has appointed Bishop of Gorakhpur of Syro-Malabars, the Reverend Fr. Thomas Thuruthimatam, CST,  Superior General of the Congregation of St. Therese (Little Flower Congregation).

His Eminence Cardinal Varkey Vithayatil, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, with the consent of the Syro-Malabar Church and having consulted the Apostolic See, has accepted the resignation of His Grace Archbishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Kottayam of Syro-Malabars. The Coadjutor Bishop, His Grace Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, has become the new Archbishop of Kottayam of Syro-Malabars.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed first Bishop of Itanagar, H.E. Most Rev. John Thomas Kattrukudiyil, Bishop of Diphu.

 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of His Lordship Rt. Rev. S. Edward Francis, from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Sivagangai. The Coadjutor Bishop, His Lordship Rt.Rev. Jebamalai Susaimanickam,  has become the new bishop of Sivagangai.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed the first Bishop of Jaipur, Right Reverend Oswald Lewis, until now Coadjutor Bishop of Meerut.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has created the new Diocese of Jaipur, bifurcating the Diocese of Ajmer-Jaipur. At the same time, the Holy Father has changed the name of the Diocese of Ajmer-Jaipur into Diocese of Ajmer.

His Holiness Pope John Paul II has raised the Syro-Malankara Metropolitan Church sui iuris to the rank of Major Archiepiscopal Church and has promoted H.E. Cyril Mar Baselios Malancharuvil to the dignity of Major Archbishop.
